Did you know the phrase “tying the knot” comes from handfasting?  This was an ancient way for a couple to show their commitment to one another and can be traced back to pagan Norse and Celtic traditions.

These beautiful and traditional celebrations of love are both romantic and spiritual.  I can offer a handfasting as a stand-alone ceremony or incorporate it into your wedding, to signify your engagement or as a renewal of your vows.

Usually they are held in natural surroundings and we have plenty of these in Britain; Glastonbury Tor,  Stonehenge, Avebury, Callanish, Orkney, King Arthur’s Cave, much of Dartmoor; but you might have a special place where you would like to hold your unique handfasting.

To make sure your handfasting is exactly as you want it we will meet at least once in order that the ceremony written will reflect your beliefs, philosophy and lives so that your handfasting will be like no other.

I look forward to help you explore more about whether this is the right celebration of your love and union. Please feel free to contact me.

Blessing of the Hands by Rev. Daniel L. Harris

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.
These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future.
These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other.
These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind.
These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and tears of joy.
These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.
These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.
These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.
And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.
